The LMX2491RTWR is an advanced, non-linerizable/programmable, frequency-modulated and frequency-hopping synthesizer, offering features that simplify integration into many RF communication systems.

This device is primarily designed for use in frequency hopping applications that require high frequency accuracy, low noise, and wide frequency range with minimal control pins. It is also suitable for applications requiring frequency synthesizers with non-linerizable frequency features and programmable output frequency from DC to 900 MHz.

Working Principle

The LMX2491RTWR operates by generating a pattern of frequencies that are each half the width of an anchor frequency, known as a “Alias Channel”. With this technique, the device can rapidly switch between different output frequencies with low noise and low phase noise while operating in a synchronous fashion. This makes it ideal for applications such as Frequency Hopping Symbol Encoding, Frequency Diversity Symbol Encoding, Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum systems, Frequency Hopping Cellular Systems, and other applications that may require the hopping of frequencies.

Theworking principle of the LMX2491RTWR is based on a series of integrated digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and clock dividers that provide analog and digital control of the output frequency. The device also includes a phase-locked loop (PLL) for phase-locked loop operation based on a reference frequency that is divided by 4 or an external reference. This reference is used to control the frequency of the output signal.

The LMX2491RTWR also contains a programmable frequency counter that can be used to measure the frequency of the output signal. This feature allows users to adjust the frequency of the output signal and calibrate the frequency of the output signal.
