The LNK6663V is a member of the Power Integrations LinkSwitch-TN2 family of integrated offline switcher ICs. The family combines the power semiconductor switches, control, protection, and a full featured reset timer onto one monolithic IC. The LNK6663V works with an external power transformer to provide a highly integrated solution for low power, low cost, AC/DC power systems.

LinkSwitch-TN2 devices, like the LNK6663V, offer an attractive solution for off-line AC/DC power supplies operating from 90-265 VAC line sources. The LinkSwitch-TN2 devices integrate two MOSFETs for high efficiency switch-mode operation; along with the necessary control, protection, and reset components.

The LNK6663V features auto-restart and 2 isolation pins designed to provide optimal protection from hazardous AC line voltages. In addition, the LNK6663V integrates 700 V high voltage MOSFETs that reduce system loss and help meet EIS/EES power supply standards.

The LNK6663V is designed for use in off-line AC/DC power systems with output power levels up to 4 watts. It can operate in standard 8-pin PDIP or SOIC packages with a choice of single or dual output transformers. The device offers a wide range of external compensation and current-mode control options, enabling highly integrated designs.

Applications for the LNK6663V include data and communication products, consumer electronics, small office/home office products, as well as industrial systems.

Working principle:
The LNK6663V operates as a high voltage switch-mode converter that converts a AC line voltage signal into a DC output. The basic principle behind the operation is that the input signal is rectified and then fed through a high frequency switching network which is driven by the internal oscillator. When the MOSFETs are switched on, a current draws through the transformer primary and the output is rectified and filtered to produce a DC voltage. To achieve the required output voltage levels, the LNK6663V uses pulse-width modulation to adjust the duty cycle of the oscillator, thereby controlling the output voltage.

The LNK6663V has several protection features, including thermal shutdown and over-voltage, under-voltage, and overload protection. The switch-mode converter also includes a reset timer circuit which provides both auto-restart and brown-out protection. To reduce EMI, the device features a frequency jittering circuit to randomize the switching frequency of the MOSFETs.
