LP09 application field and working principle have been of great interest among both professionals and enthusiasts alike. LP09, standing for Light Precipitation 0-9, is a hardware device commonly used by professionals to measure and record the amount of rainfall in a given area, as well as other environmental parameters. The LP09 functions by reactivating the “Rain Sensor” which allows a user to control the accuracy and resolution of the measurements. The Rain Sensor is a small metal tip that is exposed to the elements and is connected to the base unit of the device. The metal tip of the sensor is made of an alloy of one of four elements: zinc (Zn), indium (In), molybdenum (Mo), or lead (Pb). The alloy’s reaction to the atmospheric changes detects the amount of rain and other environmental conditions.
The LP09 uses a variety of technologies to measure the breadth and degree of rain. The “Forward Laser Based” technique is the most commonly used, as it achieves high accuracy of measurement and is relatively easy to use. In this technique, the laser travels in a forward direction and scans an 800-meter-square area for 6-8 seconds providing precise levels of rain per square meter and total area rainfall. In addition to the forward laser based techniques, LP09 also offers “Reverse Ground Based” technique, which scans a similar sized area in 4-5 seconds, using a more sophisticated scanning technique compared to the forward laser. This technique can be used to detect varied levels of rain as well as low-level air stone or dirt.
LP09 is an essential tool for both professional and amateur meteorologists as a way to measure temperature, barometric pressure, humidity and rainfall. As a result, it has been implemented by many environmental monitoring organizations as a reliable and convenient tool for measuring and recording the environment. For hobbyists, it serves as a great way to monitor the weather in their area, as well as a method to record and log environmental data for their own enjoyment.
