LP2985AIBP-3.3 is a voltage regulator which belongs to the linear category within PMIC (power management integrated circuit ). When the voltage output is lower than the reference voltage input, the error signal is sent to the control logic which sends a signal to the pass transistor. This signal turns on the pass transistor or increases its duty cycle, and increases the gate voltage of the pass transistor, thereby allowing the load current to flow and the output voltage is restored to its rated value.

Conversely, when the voltage output is higher than the reference voltage input, the error amplifier sends the error signal to the control logic, resulting in the decrease of duty cycle of the pass transistor. This reduces the gate voltage of the pass transistor, thereby decreasing the load current and the output voltage is restored to its rated value.
