The LP3961ES-1.8 is a linear voltage regulator for power management IC (PMIC) applications. It is a single-channel, fixed output, low drop-out regulator with a low quiescent current and fast transient response. The regulator is designed to provide a regulated output voltage over a wide range of input voltage and temperature extremes while dissipating a minimum amount of energy. The low input-output differential voltage allows the regulator to be used in a wide variety of low voltage and portable applications.The LP3961ES-1.8 is designed to provide a regulated output voltage with a maximum current output of 1.8A. It provides an adjustable, accurate and very stable output voltage. The output voltage is adjustable using a pair of external resistors as references. It also has low dropout voltage and can deliver full output current at low input voltage. The regulator provides a fixed output voltage from 1.8V to 5.5V with 3% accuracy over the full temperature range and with a wide input voltage range (from 2.3V to 16V).The LP3961ES-1.8 also has an excellent temperature stability, low output noise and high output current stability over time. It also has a fast transient response and low output voltage ripple and can be used in applications requiring high power delivery. The wide input voltage and temperature range makes it well suited for applications such as; mobile phones, portable gaming devices, industrial control systems, automotive, medical and consumer electronics.The LP3961ES-1.8 is constructed using monolithic CMOS technology, it integrates a Darlington transistors and two external N-channel MOSFETs in a small SOP-8 package. The device has an integrated protection feature which can prevent it from overload and short-circuiting. It also has reverse-battery protection, thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout, over-current protection and short-circuit protection.The working principle of the LP3961ES-1.8 is simple; an internal capacitive feedback loop ensures a very low dropout voltage and tight regulation of the output voltage over the full temperature range and at various load conditions. A pulse-width modulation (PWM) control is used to switch a pair of N-channel MOSFET (NMOS) transistors, which in turn charge or discharge an external capacitor connected to the output. This external capacitor helps to smooth the output voltage and reduce output voltage ripple.The LP3961ES-1.8 can be used in a variety of power management applications such as; Battery, automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, portable gaming devices and mobile phones. The regulator is ideal for applications requiring high power delivery, high efficiency, exceptionally low noise and fast transient response. It is also suitable for use in low input-output differential and high power density applications.
