The device uses an internal N-channel MOSFET as the series pass device. The output voltage is compared with the internally set regulated voltage inside the error amplifier. If the feedback voltage is lower than the reference voltage, then the MOSFET conducts, making the output voltage to rise until the two points of reference are equalized.The series pass MOSFET is driven by the error amplifier through a current mirror to provide the reference current needed to drive the pass device. The only limitation of this device is that, it needs to be supplied with a voltage higher than the output voltage.
