The LP87323Q1EVM Evaluation Board is designed to evaluate Texas Instruments’ LP87323Q1 DC-DC and AC-DC (off-line) Switch Mode Power Supply controller. This evaluation board was developed to demonstrate the functions, capabilities, and features of the LP87323Q1 controller while providing a simplified setup.
The LP87323Q1 controller provides an integrated solution for Flyback topology-based AC/DC power converters. It is optimised for a wide input voltage of 87V to 265V AC, and a wide operating frequency range from 40kHz to 200 kHz. By using LP87323Q1, customers can get improved efficiency and power-savings for applications such as ac/dc adapters for consumer electronics, battery chargers, lighting, white goods, and power supplies.
The LP87323Q1EVM Evaluation Board is based on the LP87323Q1, with integrated functions such as an Input-loss Comparator Block, MOSFET driver circulation protection, Dead-Time Generator and frequency jitter, and a Standby Control function. The EVM includes a dimmer control, a current limiting function, and an overvoltage protection feature.
The Input-Loss Comparator Block detects input power consumption and selects open or closed circuit in the optocoupler. Thus, it minimises the budget for output developed in system standby mode. The MOSFET driver circulation protection feature is used to guard against overvoltage and short circuit conditions. The Dead-Time Generator provides important protection against shoot-through current and protects the MOSFET against unwanted turn-on.
When the power supply is enabled, the frequency is modulated to reduce output voltage ripple. This frequency modulation is generated by a built-in oscillator circuit and is user-adjustable. The Standby Control function allows the designer to cut-off the output current in case of no input signal. The dimmer control feature provides better efficiency when the output current is adjusted through the signal input.
The EVM includes a current limiting function to protect the load and the power supply component from potential damage. It is also equipped with an overvoltage protection feature to protect the load from excessive power output. In addition to these features, the LP87323Q1EVM offers a streamlined and simplified design approach, enabling customers to quickly and easily set up and operate the EVM.
The evaluation board also comes with an On-Board Power Supply Configuration, allowing users to adjust the input voltage levels according to their particular application. It also supports wide input voltages of 87V to 265V AC, allowing it to operate with a wide range of input voltages. Lastly, the evaluation board comes with a graphical user interface, providing an intuitive, easy-to-use interface for controlling the board.
