LP87322Q1EVM is an evaluation module (EVM) that provides an easy, cost-effective way for end-product designers to evaluate LP87322Q1-based SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) applications. Developed by Texas Instruments, the LP87322Q1 is a current-mode, flyback, periodic-shift offline switching controller. The current sense feature in the device helps minimize the extra passive components required in the system by providing a reference point for the external MOSFET in the application.The LP87322Q1EVM brings the performance of the LP87322Q1 to evaluation boards and provides designers with an exceptional platform for testing the device\'s capabilities for various application designs. The LP87322Q1 is especially well suited for off-line, high power AC/DC & DC/DC switch mode applications.The EVM includes all of the necessary circuitry to evaluate the LP87322Q1, such as a secondary winding, a transformer, filters, the required current sensing components, topologies and settings. All devices are pre-soldered on the board and can be used in a broad range of applications. The EVM also includes an on-board I2C interface, which is used to control and monitor the device settings.The design of the LP87322Q1EVM is based on an inverted flyback topology. The diode bridge rectifier is used to convert the AC input voltage into a DC voltage, which is then converted to an appropriate output voltage by the transformer and SMPS switch. The output voltage is then regulated by the controller.The current sensing feature of the LP87322Q1 allows it to monitor the current drawn by the application. This is done by measuring the current flowing through the external MOSFET. The current sense feature helps in reducing the number of extra passive components required in the system.The adjustable controller is designed to operate in a range from 65 kHz to 340 kHz, and features adjustable frequency, pulse width, and current limit. The EVM also includes a comprehensive graphical user interface (GUI). The onboard GUI allows users to adjust the vital parameters of the device in order to tailor it to their specific application.The design also features a worst-case over-voltage protection function, preventing the output voltage from exceeding the specified operating limits. This protection feature is enabled by a combination of the over-voltage protection circuit, which is designed to protect the component from over-voltage conditions and the high-side MOSFET driver, which shuts off the gate of the MOSFET when an over-voltage is detected.In addition to the on-board GUI, the EVM also includes a comprehensive set of user documentation and software that provides step-by-step guidance for setting up and testing the device. This makes it easier for users of all skill levels to utilize the device in their application design.Overall, the LP87322Q1EVM is an excellent way for designers to evaluate the LP87322Q1 for DC/DC, AC/DC, and high power off-line switch mode power supply applications. Thanks to the current sensing feature, minimal external components are required to use the device. The EVM also includes a comprehensive user documentation and GUI, making it easy for users to adjust and test the device settings.
