Pressure sensors, transducers, and the LPS22HDTR are all related pieces of technology used in various engineering and scientific applications. The working principle behind the LPS22HDTR is based on the combination of two separate MEMS, or “micro-electro-mechanical systems”, technologies. The first is a barometric pressure MEMS which measures the pressure of the atmosphere relative to a baseline pressure. This relative pressure is calculated through the Bernoulli’s equation which states that as the pressure increases, the velocity of molecules in the atmosphere also increase. Using this equation, the barometer MEMS is able to accurately monitor changes in pressure.
The other MEMS technology used in the LPS22HDTR is a temperature MEMS which works by measuring the temperature difference between two points. This “differential temperature” or “thermal expansion” measurement is obtained by using two separate temperature-sensitive transducers. The sensing element of each transducer expands or contracts in response to changes in temperature, which is then converted into a digital output corresponding to the difference in temperature.
By combining the capabilities of both MEMS technologies, the LPS22HDTR is able to measure both atmospheric pressure and temperature quickly and accurately. The device utilizes a digital output format, allowing it to be easily interfaced with existing systems. The LPS22HDTR is best suited for applications where accuracy and response times are of the utmost importance, such as in climate and weather monitoring, and medical research.
