The LT1072CS8#PBF is a low drop-out Positive voltage regulator which is categories under PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators. It is a monolithic plastic power regulator specifically designed to provide positive(-ve) regulation with the output voltage adjustable between 1.2V to 20V. It is a three terminal device with two given input pins one of which is the input voltage supply and other is the ground pin. The third pin is the output voltage pin and can be adjusted by varying the voltage across the Adjust pin. It offers improved AC/DC characteristics with ripple rejection at greater than 72dB. It has a wide supply range of 2.4V – 40V and can supply an output current up to 150mA single output or 250mA dual output (<0.1% line and load regulation). This regulator further delivers a high PSRR of better than 50dB at 1KHz. It has a low dropout voltage of 520mV. It comes in 8 pin TO-220 package providing a full protection using the Reverse-battery protection and over-temperature protection feature.

Working Principle: The LT1072CS8#PBF device is a low drop-out Positive Voltage Regulator. The device operates on the principle of providing regulating voltage by the use of linear circuitry in the form of a pass transistor and a voltage reference. When the output voltage falls below the regulation point, the device will start to increase the current flow, thus compensating for the drop in output voltage. This process is continued until the output voltage reaches the regulation point. The regulation point is then maintained as long as the input voltage and load current remains constant. The features like Reverse-battery protection and over-temperature protection further protect the device from damage due to external conditions.
