The IC comes in the 8-pin MSOP and PowerPAD surface mount package with a wide operating temperature range from -40°C ~ 125°C, making it suitable for many different applications. It consists of a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller, high efficiency power MOSFET, current sense amplifier and other protection circuitry.The LT1107IS8#TRPBF operates by sensing the load current at the load side connection of its output power MOSFET. The load current is then compared with the values defined on its comparator bus. If the load current is high, then the PWM controller turns on its output MOSFET for a longer duration and thus increases the output voltage. Similarly, if the load current is low, then the PWM controller turns off its output MOSFET for a longer duration and thus decreases the output voltage. The output voltage is further regulated by controlling the switching frequency of its output MOSFET. The switch frequency can be adjusted using the “ON/OFF” switch. If the switch is in the “ON” position, then the PWM controller operates in the low frequency mode and if the switch is in the “OFF” position, then the PWM controller operates in the high frequency mode.The LT1107IS8#TRPBF also consists of an internal soft start circuitry, which provides a slow rise of the output voltage during start up. This helps in avoiding inrush current thereby increasing the life span of the device.
