As a DC DC Switching Regulators, the regulator uses a feedback loop to maintain the output voltage at a fixed value despite changes in the load current, input voltage, and temperature.
The part includes an internal 5mA overload protection circuit and a low-side regulator as well as overtemperature protection. It uses a voltage reference combined with a PNP pass transistor, with a current mirror to balance the current when controlling either the high or low sides.
