PMIC - Gate Drivers

The LT1910IS8#PBF is a high-performance, low-voltage, high-speed MOSFET gate driver with integrated Schottky diodes. It provides up to 8 channels of high-speed, non-overlapping, low-jitter digital MOSFET gate drive waveforms at roughly half the voltage of other industry-standard digital MOSFET gate drivers of similar performance and functionality. It is capable of driving both digital and analog MOSFET switch devices.

Application Field

The LT1910IS8#PBF is ideal for use in a variety of applications including high-frequency switching for power regulators, linear power and motor control, high-current and hot-swap controllers, and lighting. Its dual channel capability makes it suitable for driving switching regulators, driving power MOSFETs in Full-bridge or Half-bridge topologies, and driving two MOSFETs in CCM (continuous conduction mode) to reduce ripple currents.

The LT1910IS8#PBF has a built-in Schottky diode that allows easy paralleling of two or more LT1910IS8#PBFs to drive multiple stages of power multiplication and/or cascaded linear power converters. Additionally, its adjustable dead time gives designers the flexibility to adapt it for a variety of applications including N-channel MOSFETs, PMOS, PDP, and power ICs.

Working Principle

The LT1910IS8#PBF operates based on a proprietary patented technology called Adaptive Dead Time (ADT) that yields low-jitter digital gate drive waveforms and a nearly symmetrical output half-cycle into duty cycles up to one microsecond. This optimizes the power MOSFET switching performance, reduces switching losses and improves circuit protection.

The core of the LT1910IS8#PBF’s ADT technology is a high-speed timing control that utilizes a unique dynamic logic operation to adjust the gate drive waveforms dynamically, based on load conditions. The dynamic logic adjusts the logic levels, independent of the MOSFET\'s characteristics, allowing the LT1910IS8#PBF to drive both high voltage and low voltage power MOSFETs. This protection against high voltage MOSFETs is accomplished by consecutively delaying the rising edge of the drive waveform to reduce high-side MOSFET mis-triggering.

The LT1910IS8#PBF also contains three selectable slew rates: Fast, Slow and Adaptive, which allows the user to adjust the spreading of the drive signals for different operating modes and switching frequencies. The Adaptive mode works in a similar fashion to the ADT function, where the dynamic logic operation adjusting the logic levels adapts to the power MOSFET characteristics to optimize the performance for ultra-low jitter, low-power MOSFET switching.

In addition, the LT1910IS8#PBF is built with two receive channels, supporting output cross conduction protection, and supports negative strobe frequency or duty cycle control.
