Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) is a kind of typical electrical device which serves the purpose of overvoltage protection. Thanks to its versatility, LT230SM has been widely employed in not only telecommunication, but also other applications with expansive market demand, such as in-vehicle networks, industry control, base stations, remote control equipment, to name just a few.When coming to the working principle of LT230SM, the basic operation of the arrester can be divided into two stages, the quenching and the relay.Firstly, when the surge current passes through electrostatic shield and variety of silicon oxide resistance networks inside the arrester’s shell, the electrostatic shield produces force, pushing two electrodes apart. Then, the voltage enhances to a higher level, making it possible for air gap between the electrodes to be filled with ions created by the impact of electrons. Thus, the trigging voltage increases rapidly, resulting in spark over. Subsequently, the spark over accelerates the number of ions between the two electrodes, ensuring a low-resistance conduction path between them. In this way, further overvoltage currents can be quickly eliminated.Once the Trig Voltage is reached, a protective switch mechanism, namely “Relay”, kicks in. Following the steps of trigging voltage, the voltage soars upto a threshold and is no longer tolerable by the shorted electrodes, which can not dissipate any more energy. Then, another physical mechanism is triggered. The relay immediately operates automatically, changing its internal connection switching points, thus sparing the life of GDT. After this process, the LT230SM could be re-used for triggering voltage protection.To summarize, LT230SM, being much sought after by its exceptional advantages such as quicker response time and higher reliability, is seen as a new star among gas discharge tube arresters.
