It is designed for use in highly sensitive, low power and battery-powered applications.ApplicationsThe LT3013MPFE#TRPBF can be used in many different applications including but not limited to the following: • Portable Electronics: Cell phones, laptops, netbooks, tablets, cameras, and other handheld devices • Instrumentation and Sensors: Automotive/Industrial sensors, medical diagnostic/monitoring equipment and test/measurement equipment • Audio/Voice: Amplifiers, audio/voice recorders, headphones and headsets. • Security/Alarm Systems: Data loggers, prepaid energy meters and access control/alarm systems • Industrial: Factory automation, computing/control systems and process control/metering devices • Power Management: Battery powered systems, isolated DC/DC converters, High/Low Memory and SMPS controllers • Automotive/Avionics: Navigation systems, communication systems, entertainment systems and computer gaming consoles The LT3013MPFE#TRPBF can be used to maintain an output voltage in the range of 0.8 V to 6 V with a maximum output current of 500 mA. It has a dropout voltage of 0.25 V maximum as well as very low quiescent current of 100 μA. The low noise and high precision (1% accuracy for unloaded conditions) of the device make it suitable for low power and battery-powered applications. The LT3013MPFE#TRPBF contains circuitry to minimize the effects of reverse current from the input to the output. The device has short circuit and thermal protection which ensures safe operation even in the event of a fault. Working PrincipleThe LT3013MPFE#TRPBF works by combining an on-chip error amplifier, a high-current PMOS pass transistor and other internal circuitry in a three-terminal, low dropout configuration. The error amplifier compares the output voltage with a reference voltage (typically 1.25 V). The output voltage is adjusted to maintain the desired value. If the output voltage drops due to a heavy load, the error amplifier outputs a higher voltage to the PMOS pass transistor, increasing the current through it. This causes a drop in the output voltage of the regulator, thus reducing the load and returning it to the set point voltage. The opposite happens if the output voltage rises due to a light load, where the error amplifier outputs a lower voltage, thus reducing the current through the PMOS pass transistor to adjust the output voltage to the desired value. The LT3013MPFE#TRPBF also offers load line compensation, which keeps the output voltage within the desired range even when the load current changes rapidly. This feature allows for an adjustable line regulation by setting the load line resistance.Overall, the LT3013MPFE#TRPBF is a high precision, low noise linear regulator for low power, battery-powered applications.
