LT3020EMS8-1.8#PBF belongs to PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear. It is designed to provide an adjustable and low dropout voltage regulator with an output voltage as low as 0.8V. It also provides an independent solution for two supplies which can be as low as 0.8V and as high as 6V. With its adjustable current limit, soft start, thermal overload protection, and other advanced features, it can be used in a wide range of applications conveniently.
Working Principle
The LT3020EMS8-1.8#PBF operates in three stages: feedback regulation, output regulation and current limit. In the feedback regulation stage, an internal bandgap reference is used to adjust the linear tapered voltage source and the reference for the main error amplifier, which configures the output voltage of the device. The linear tapered voltage source is used to provide a minimum dropout voltage, resulting in higher efficiency than with other linear devices.
In the output regulation stage, the main error amplifier compares the feedback voltage and the regulating voltage to correct the current output. The voltage feedback is taken from the output resistor divider, which provides a voltage control voltage that is accurate and proportional to the output voltage. The error amplifier can be biased externally to control the output current limit.
In the current limit stage, the output current is set by the voltage applied to the current limit pins. This voltage is sensed internally and is compared against a current limit threshold voltage. If the sensed voltage is greater than the current limit threshold voltage, the output current is limited. The current limit is then reset when the voltage at the current limit pins drops below the current limit threshold
