The LT3085EMS8E#TRPBF voltage regulator is a Linear Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC). It is designed to perfectly suit a range of power applications, offering solid performance, high efficiency, low noise, and a small footprint.

The LT3085EMS8E#TRPBF core foundation is based on a distinct linear architecture, which makes it easier to achieve accurate static output current limit setting, low output voltage ripple and superb response to line/load transients. Its output voltage accuracy is also extremely tight (2mV). Its low RDS(on) MOSFETs and OCP feedback circuit provide immediate current limiting, eliminating short-circuit damage to load components.

This voltage regulator is based on a classical linear architecture featuring an error amplifier, two internal compensated voltage references, an internal power MOSFET, and overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown features. The reference voltage is typically 1.220V. The error amplifier is directly driven by either the small-signal or thermal shutdown pins. The MOSFET, which provides a low resistance path between the output voltage level and the input voltage level, is controlled by a low power oscillator and the OUTPUT LOCK pin.

Pin 1 of the LT3085EMS8E#TRPBF is the output voltage feedback, the input error amplifier feeding the voltage reference bias voltage and the voltage reference. Pin 2 is for the current sense, Pin 3 is for the output current limit, and Pin 4 is the output voltage regulation point. Additionally, Pin 5 is the shutdown pin, and Pin 6 is the power ground pin, while Pin 7 provides an output voltage feedback via the internal resistors.

This voltage regulator also features the Power Good (PG) output. It is available at pin 8 and is used to indicate the output voltage level. When the output voltage falls beneath the PG threshold, the Power Good output will be low to indicate the need for voltage re-regulation. The LT3085EMS8E#TRPBF also has an Over Temperature Protection (OTP) feature. It has an internal temperature sensor which, when tripped, will disable all internal functions, causing the output to drop low.

The LT3085EMS8E#TRPBF can work over a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V, and provides up to 5.5A of current output. Its high-efficiency switching is tailored for low-noise operation, and its low output voltage dropout is ideal for high line applications. Its tight output voltage tolerance, temperature tracking, and stability ensure a reliable voltage delivery performance. The load regulation of the device is 6.25mV, and its current limit is 5.5A.

The device is optimized for surface mounting and has an operating ambient temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. Its peak efficiency can be as high as 98%. Its small foot print makes it an ideal choice for compact power systems due to its wide operating temperature range, current and output voltage range, high temperature performance, and low dropout. Its low EMI, fast transient response, and low noise make it suitable for power demanding applications.
