The LT3086IFE#TRPBF is a high-voltage regulator designed to provide power to loads requiring up to 36V of output voltage from sources operating up to 72V. This device is capable of providing up to 3A of output current, with a very low dropout voltage (NO) of only 276mV (typical) for normal operation and 73mV for 0.5A load. Compared to devices with an ‘optional’ NO of 400mV or greater, its NO is significantly lower. It includes a noise filter to reduce unwanted noise of up to 10MHz in amplitude. Its basic architecture consists of a voltage regulator, error amplifier, voltage references, and control loops. This architecture allows the LT3086IFE#TRPBF to deliver clean and stable output voltages with low ripple and high efficiency.

Working Principle

The working principle of the LT3086IFE#TRPBF is based on a feedback loop. The control loop compares the output of the reference error amplifier to the sensed output voltage. If the voltage is too high, the control loop lowers the output voltage by reducing the duty cycle of the switching transistors to decrease the output current. If the voltage is too low, the duty cycle of the switching transistors is increased, increasing the output current. This enables the device to regulate and maintain the output voltage at the desired level.

The LT3086IFE#TRPBF incorporates a pulse-width modulated (PWM) control circuit that maintains output regulation even when the input voltage and load current fluctuate. This PWM architecture provides fast dynamic response, better load and line regulation, and low output voltage ripple. In addition, the PWM architecture provides excellent current and thermal performance and allows the device to operate at frequencies exceeding 1 MHz while maintaining stability.

The LT3086IFE#TRPBF also features an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) and a power-up soft start (PUS) that prevent output voltage overshoot caused by inrush current. The UVLO circuit monitors the input voltage level and turns off the power switch if the input voltage falls below the UVLO threshold voltage. The PUS circuit helps to reduce inrush current during power up, while providing a soft start mode of operation.
