LT3512IMS#TRPBF High-Efficiency, Low-Noise, 1A Step-Down DC-DC Converters

The LT3512IMS#TRPBF is a cube family of high-efficiency, low-noise, 1A synchronous step-down DC-DC converters. It is easy to use, low electromagnetic interference, and has very low power consumption. With an internal 250mΩ/50V switch, it offers very low power dissipation. The advertised efficiency is 90% to 95%. The LT3512IMS#TRPBF offers the highest power efficiency for applications operating with small inductor size.

Working Principle

The LT3512IMS#TRPBF is a linear step-down DC-DC converter. It uses a pulsewidth modulation (PWM) control technique to maintain a constant output voltage. The internal switch is the key component of the converter, which is the switching component which regulates the input voltage to a constant. The converter operates in continuous conduction mode for very low profile design, along with low output ripple. The internal oscillator works at 1.2MHz frequency to provide very fast transient response.

The implemented switching frequency of 1.2MHz allows the use of small external components. It uses a 0.47μH inductor and a 4.7 μF ceramic capacitor from input to output. The internal soft-start time prevents overloading on power up. In addition, it has several additional features for users’ convenience. It has low quiescent current, internal compensation, and current limit protection.

Safety and EMC Compliance

The converter meets the most commonly used standards EN55022, EN61000-3-2, and EN61000-3-3. Its safety features and protection include output short circuit protection and over-temperature protection. The power system design has passed UL 60950 Third Edition.
