Working Principle

The LT3641IUFD#TRPBF operates in the step-down, buck topology. An internal high-side MOSFET switch is driven by a constant-frequency, current mode PWM controller, driving the inductor current up and down. The power supply is controlled by modulating the frequency, rise and fall times of the high-side switch in order to keep the output voltage stable and to maintain the loop stability. When the load current drops below a certain level, the switch is disabled and the output is regulated via the low-side, NFET switch. During this quiescent period the output current is forced to zero.
