The LT3686AHMSE#TRPBF is a synchronous 4-switch buck-boost DC-DC regulator or synchronous step-up/step-down DC-DC regulator. This regulator combines a buck and a boost regulator into a single package. It is able to regulate both above and below the input voltage and its SW2 and SW3 MOSFETs operate with a phase-shift that can be programmed over a wide range. The LT3686AHMSE#TRPBF has internal compensation for load transient response, and an internal current limit circuit can be used to set the maximum output current limit. The device also includes a Voltage Regulation and Soft-start, and is available in a TSSOP or LLGA package.

Working Principle

The LT3686AHMSE#TRPBF is a combination buck-boost regulator and a synchronous step-up/step-down regulator. The device is able to regulate above and below the input voltage by using its two n-channel MOSFETs, SW2 and SW3, which operate in a phase-shifted manner. It is able to produce a regulated output voltage that is determined by the external resistors applied to the VREF pin. The device also includes a minimum on-time (TON) circuit to ensure that it is able to regulate output voltage transiently. In addition, it includes a current limit circuit to limit the peak current delivered to the load.

The regulator also includes a soft-start circuit, which adds an initial ramp-up duration to the output voltage. This helps reduce the inrush current during start-up and protects the load from the surge. Furthermore, the Current Limit and Under-Voltage Lock-out (UVLO) functions prevent the device from overloading the load, and from operating at a voltage that could cause damage to the device.

The LT3686AHMSE#TRPBF is available in a 14-pin TSSOP or 6-pin LLGA package. It is designed for a wide operating temperature range of -40℃ to 85℃, making it ideal for outdoor applications in extreme temperatures.
