Working Principle

The LT3689IMSE#TRPBF is a synchronous step-down DC-DC switching regulator which uses a fixed frequency PWM control method. The circuit includes an internal power MOSFET switch, rectifier and loop compensation components which are all integrated on the internal silicon die.When the input voltage exceeds the output voltage, the rectifier starts up and the PWM controller turns on the switch. This allows the current to flow from Vin to the output capacitor and through the drain of the internal switch. The current flows through the inductor and is supplied to the output.When the current increases due to the output load, the PWM controller senses and adjusts the duty ratio of the switch accordingly. This ensures that the output voltage is maintained constant. When the input voltage decreases, the output voltage will decrease too, however the PWM controller will reduce the on time of the switch and the inductor is allowed to discharge the stored energy. This maintains the output voltage at the set value.
