The LT3845EFE#TRPBF is a member of Linear Technology\'s family of DC-DC switching controllers that is designed to convert voltage and current levels between different power sources, allowing for optimal and highly accurate control of the output voltage for applications requiring high efficiency, fast response, and low noise operation.

The LT3845EFE#TRPBF is nothing short of an impressive power solution. Measuring just 4 x 2.4 x 0.75mm, it boasts a wide 4.5V to 28V input voltage range, adjustable output voltage range between 0.5V and 5.0V, and 200mA output current capability. By providing current-mode control, it can dynamically maintain the output voltage in a fast, stable manner.

Its output noise-free switching frequency is user-programmable between 200kHz and 2MHz, and the frequency can easily be synchronized with an external clock. With its ability to reduce switching losses and improve efficiency, the LT3845EFE#TRPBF ensures an extremely low quiescent current of 55µA typically, with the output in regulation, and just 25µA when in standby. Furthermore, it provides overload and over-temperature protection, and internal soft-start circuitry.

The LT3845EFE#TRPBF is an ideal solution for a variety of applications, ranging from cellular base station power supplies, wireless handset power management, embedded systems and consumer electronics to industrial, automotive and medical electronics. It is capable of delivering high efficiency, fast response and low noise operation in all of these applications.

The LT3845EFE#TRPBF is configured to operate in either buck or boost mode. In buck mode, the output voltage is reduced from the input, which makes it suitable for power down or level shifting applications. In boost mode, it can be used for applications such as battery backup, or for raising an input voltage to a higher output level.

When using the LT3845EFE#TRPBF in buck mode, the external B capacitor is charged up to the input voltage, while the external L inductor will convert the current into a magnetic field when the internal switch is turned on. When the internal switch turns off, the magnetic field stored in the inductor will collapse and result in a voltage across the internal switch and the inductor, resulting in additional current being drawn from the external B capacitor to continue charging the output capacitor until it reaches the programmed output voltage.

In boost mode, the external B capacitor will be charged up to the input voltage during the off-time of the internal switch, and the L inductor will convert the energy from the supply rail into the magnetic field when the internal switch is turned on. When the internal switch turns off, the stored energy in the inductor will boil up, resulting in a voltage across the switch and the inductor and providing current to the load and charging the output capacitor until it reaches the programmed output voltage.

The LT3845EFE#TRPBF is designed to enable efficient, optimum performance and fast and accurate control of the output voltage for a variety of power management applications.
