The LT3980IDE#PBF is a DC-DC FET-capable step-down switching regulator with a buck topology and high efficiency by Linear Technology. It is provided in a small 4 mm × 3 mm QFN package with up to 2A current capabilities. The LT3980IDE#PBF can be configured with Buck, Buck-Boost, and Boost topologies and offers many features including adjustable soft-start, adjustable current limit, and tracking/sequencing for multiple regulators. The LT3980IDE#PBF is designed for applications such as automotive, industrial and other high-power DC-DC converters. It supports input voltage from 6V to 40V, and is suitable for operation from a single Li-Ion cell or a wide range of industrial supplies. The high input voltage allows the LT3980IDE#PBF to operate in the higher efficiency range over a wide input voltage range. In a typical I2C mode, the LT3980IDE#PBF starts up in Burst Mode and then quickly switches to a lower frequency. In this way, it minimizes the current glitches and reducing the power loss during startup. The device automatically adjusts the operating frequency, accurately controlling the output voltage and current without external loop compensation components, hence providing maximum efficiency, fast transient response, and stable operation. The LT3980IDE#PBF is fully protected against fault conditions such as input undervoltage, output overvoltage, overtemperature, and adjustable current limit. It can be configured to shut down the output voltage and remain in the shutdown state until the fault is removed. The LT3980IDE#PBF can be utilized in single-cell Li-Ion battery-powered systems to ensure only a valid output voltage is drawn from the battery. The LT3980IDE#PBF also has a PWRGD output which provides a true/complementary power good signal, which can be connected to a microcontroller or monitoring circuit for system power-up/shutdown control. Another feature of the LT3980IDE#PBF is its wide-range of tracking/sequencing capabilities, which allow easy synchronization of multiple regulators from the same bus. It also has programmable soft-start, adjustable current limit, and adjustable switching frequency. In addition, the LT3980IDE#PBF is integrated with a robust design which provides excellent transient response capability, high efficiency at light loads, and adjustable switching frequency. The device is also available in various package options with various current ratings.
