DC-DC switching regulators are an integral component of any PMIC device that controls the output power and voltage of a system. The LT3999MPMSE#TRPBF switching regulator is an advanced multi-phase DC to DC synchronous regulator that provides high current and low noise with a wide range of output voltages. The regulator also boasts a high-efficiency design and advanced soft-start and over-temperature protection.
The LT3999 has a wide input voltage range from 3V to 16V and can be used for input voltages from 2.5V to 20V with an optional external component. It has an adjustable switching frequency from 250kHz to 2MHz and is capable of providing up to 50A of output current. This cycle continues until the feedback voltage is equal to the pre-set voltage, ensuring constant output voltage.
In addition to voltage regulation, the LT3999 provides over-current protection and over-temperature protection. The over-current protection limits the output current when it exceeds the programmed level and turns the power stage off until the fault is cleared. The over-temperature protection shuts the device off if the junction temperature exceeds the programmed level, allowing the device to cool before continuing operation. This prevents long-term damage to the device and ensures the device operates within its specifications.
The LT3999 is pin-compatible with many other regulators such as the LT3799, LT3740 and LT3799, making it easy to upgrade existing designs. It also includes many other features such as selectable spread spectrum, internal switching frequency dithering, remote voltage sensing and adjustable soft-start, making it an ideal choice for a variety of applications.
