When the voltage go beyond the predetermined threshold, the MOV will be triggered into conduction state. the MOV will start to attenuate both the current and voltage by a fixed resistance, which allows the current to be diverted away from the main power circuit. After the voltage level goes down below a predetermined level, the MOV turns back to the off state, the voltage level will also be set by using a voltage divider bias technique.
