The LT6656AIDC-3#TRPBF is an advanced Low Dropout Voltage Reference, specially designed for precision analog, industrial and communication control application. It is a stable and accurate three-terminal voltage reference, with a low dropout voltage of 1 mV. The device provides a dynamic range of 1 − 2.5 mV and has a maximum temperature coefficient of 2 ppm/°C. The LT6656AIDC-3#TRPBF offers a wide input voltage range from 0.5 V to 10 V and a very low output noise level of less than 1 μVrms. The device is capable of operating in a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C.

Working principle

The LT6656AIDC-3#TRPBF operates on the principle of a series configuration of two PMOS transistors with a precision resistor network, forming a band gap Reference Voltage. The input voltage is applied to the gate of the first transistor, which influences the voltage across the resistor network, resulting in a regulated reference voltage at the output. The output voltage is further regulated by adjusting the gate voltage of the second transistor.

The device is also equipped with an on-board feedback current to trim the reference voltage accuracy to within 1% of the specified target. The feedback loop helps to reduce the output noise and keeps the output voltage temperature-stable. The LT6656AIDC-3#TRPBF allows for a maximum operating temperature of 85 °C, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

It is also equipped with a Thermal Shutdown feature, which protects the device in case of an over-temperature condition or an overload condition. The device also incorporates Reverse-Current Protection, which protects against negative input voltages, and Output Discharge Protection, which protects against output short circuits.
