Working Principle

The LT8361IMSE#PBF works on the basis of a Peak current mode control (PCMC) topology. Peak current mode control ensures that the peak current of the inductor remains constant during operation. This topology is preferred for applications requiring a fast transient response, as it eliminates the need for an error amplifier and compensator in the loop. The maximum peak inductor current is programmed with an internal current limit setting.

The circuit includes overcurrent protection and short circuit protection. When an overcurrent situation is detected, the circuit shuts down and the power switch is disabled. The circuit also includes a thermal shutdown feature: when the temperature of the chip exceeds a safe limit, the power switch is disabled and the output voltage is forced to 0V.

In addition, the LT8361IMSE#PBF is able to dynamically adjust its output to an adjustable output voltage. This is accomplished by using the voltage feedback voltage and the output reference voltage along with the peak inductor current and the inductor current limit setting to adjust the duty cycle.
