Introduction

The LT8570EDD-1#PBF is a high-efficiency current mode DC/DC synchronous buck switching regulator with high-performance symmetric double-sampling comparator and soft start circuitry. It is part of the DC/DC Switching Regulators family of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) from Linear Technology. It is designed to deliver excellent performance to meet the most demanding voltage regulation requirements.

Features

The LT8570EDD-1#PBF is optimized to provide up to 6.0 A output current with a 0.75 V dropout voltage and up to 3.0 A continuous output current with 0.6 V dropout at 5 V input. The output voltage can be set from 0.8 V to 5.0 V. The synchronization frequency can be adjusted from 200 to 650 kHz with a single resistor. The LT8570EDD features both internal soft start and external SYNC pins. The output voltage can be temporarily forced lower by the Sync pin and higher by the Soft Start pin. Other features include a Total Device Efficiency of 94%, an Enable pin, programmable Overcurrent and Overvoltage protection, and Thermal Shut Down. The device is offered in a 29-bump Wafer Level Chip Scale Package.

Application Field

Working Principle

The LT8570EDD-1#PBF operates by driving the internal MOSFET switches off and on, regulating the output voltage to within an acceptable window. The switches are driven at a fixed frequency of up to 650 kHz from the internal oscillator. The current mode control loop senses the inductor current peak and maintains a constant duty cycle for the switches. The output voltage level is set through an external resistor divider connected to the FB pin. When the FB pin voltage reaches either the over-voltage or under-voltage level, the ERROR comparator raises the output voltage higher or lowers the output voltage lower. The output voltage can also be forced higher or lower by driving the Soft Start or Sync pins, respectively.The device is protected with multiple safety features, including Overcurrent protection, Overvoltage protection, Thermal Shut Down and an enable pin which can be used to reduce or eliminate power.
