Introduction

LT8570IDD#PBF is a current mode switching voltage regulator featuring fixed frequency, current mode control. It runs from an input supply ranging from 2.5V to 5.5V and can be configured in buck, boost or inverting topologies to provide a regulated output anywhere in the range from 0.5V to 5.5V. It integrates all the necessary components, including a high-side switch, low-side switch, and a current sensing resistor, to simplify applications and reduce total cost.

Working Principle

>LT8570IDD#PBF uses a fixed frequency current mode control scheme in order to regulate output voltage. The current mode control provides a fast transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limit protection by sensing the inductor current. The current mode control also allows the application of large inductors and capacitors for output voltage ripple filtering and maximum efficiency.At the start of each switching cycle, the internal high-side switches are enabled, which leads to an increase in the inductor current. The peak current is determined by the voltage across the current sensing resistor. When the sensed peak current rises above the threshold, the internal high-side switch is disabled and the current sensed by the resistor starts to decay until it reaches the low selected current level. This turning off of the high-side switch causes the inductor current to flow in reverse, at the output capacitor, until it reaches the low selected current level. The internal low-side switch is enabled and the current starts to increase again. This switching pattern is repeated until the desired output voltage is achieved.
