The LTC1297DCN8 is a low-cost, 14-bit, dual-channel analog-to-digital converter made by Linear Technology Corporation. It is designed for use in applications where multiple input voltages need to be measured quickly and accurately, such as in navigation and automated test systems. The LTC1297DCN8 uses a charge redistribution technique known as Successive Approximation Register (SAR) architecture to convert the input voltage into a 14-bit binary number. This is then further processed for a digital output. The maximum input voltage range of the LTC1297DCN8 is ±10V which is expandable to ±20V with the external Op Amp. The converter includes a built-in reference voltage of 2.5V, but this can also be externally supplied. The device also includes a specific external reference voltage divider for improved accuracy.
The LTC1297DCN8 can be operated in either dual-channel, continuous conversion or single-channel, single-shot mode. In the dual-channel, continuous conversion mode, both channels are read out consecutively with a maximum sampling rate of 300kHz, while in the single-channel, single-shot mode, a single channel can be read out with a maximum sampling rate of 150kHz. In either mode, the input voltage is digitized and the output is in two’s complement form.
The LTC1297DCN8 also features enhanced cold junction compensation capabilities with a resolution of 0.25°C. This ensures that the measurements remain precise and accurate when the device is used in extreme temperature environments. Additionally, the converter is available in a variety of packages including SOIC and TSSOP, and is specified over a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
