LTC1628IG-SYNC#PBF is a single-phase synchronous step-down switching regulator controller with four integrated N-Channel MOSFETs. It provides a highly efficient solution to transform a +3V to +7V input voltage range down to a +1.25V output voltage with a very-low quiescent current of only 17μA. This part requires no external loop compensation components, making it suitable for battery powered, very-low power budget applications.
LTC1628IG-SYNC#PBF targeted applications are battery operated products, such as portable medical, haptic drivers, wireless links and cellphones which require very efficient power conversion. This part offers very good efficiency even at light loads due to its internal MOSFETs and low quiescent current. Also synchronous rectification is used to improve efficiency by significantly reducing the voltage drop across the rectifier elements of the output stage, providing for a very low-power solution.
The internal PWM control provides an adjustable switch frequency and enable input to shutdown the power supply in order to extend battery life if the system is idle, energy saving programs become enabled or the product enters a standby state.The output voltage is easily adjustable using an external resistor divider connected to the VOUT pin. If the input voltage becomes too low, the part is designed to automatically shut down to prevent overcurrent in low line applications.
The LTC1628IG-SYNC#PBF operating principle mainly consists of voltage regulation, current limit protection, overvoltage protection and automatic shutdown. In order to maintain a certain level of output voltage, the controller regulates the turn-on and turn-off times of the switches of the power stage, adjusting the duty cycle of the PWM signal in response to output voltage feedback. Such regulation is achieved by an error amplifier that compares the output voltage level and an external voltage reference. Then, the error amplifier outputs a control signal and a digital gate driver receives it, generating the PWM signal that opens and closes the switches of the power stage. In addition, an internal current limit protection is provided to protect the input supply by limiting total load current, as well as an overvoltage protection which shuts off the power supply when the input voltage is too high.
The LTC1628IG-SYNC#PBF is an advanced, highly efficient and low-power integrated synchronous step-down regulator. Its integrated features such as high switch frequency operation, internal MOSFETs and low quiescent current, overvoltage protection and current limit protection provide a very attractive solution for battery-operated applications where high efficiency and low power consumption is required.
