Working Principles

The LTC1709 is a Constant-On-Time (COT) DC-DC controller that utilizes adaptive pulse-width modulation to realize fast transient response, low output voltage ripple and seamless transition between modes of operation.

The LTC1709 then operates in DCM mode and senses current through the inductor IL.

The LTC1709 then monitors the current through the inductor and adjusts the switch timing accordingly. This effectively adjusts the inductor current, limiting it to its desired level, and therefore controls the output voltage.
