LTC1772IS6#TRPBF is a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) DC DC switching controller from the voltage regulators and DC DC switching controllers family within the Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) category. It is designed to extend battery life and reduce the size and cost associated with power regulation and distribution in portable electronic systems.The typical application areas for the LTC1772IS6#TRPBF are in communication systems, industrial and consumer electronics, computers, and other applications where size, low power and heat dissipation are paramount. It can be used to provide a full-wave regulation of DC output voltage, where an unregulated input voltage is available (e.g. wall-mount transformers, car power adapters, etc.).The LTC1772IS6#TRPBF features a high-efficiency voltage regulator using a synchronous PWM architecture. It has an output range of 0.8V to 5.5V, with a maximum output current of 1A. The synchronous PWM architecture operates at up to 1MHz switching frequency and supports the use of the 2.5V for the 5V rail or 3.3V for the 3.3V rail. The maximum output voltage range and maximum output current can be varied by selecting installation resistors.The LTC1772IS6#TRPBF works through an internal or external reference voltage that can be configured by connecting to a 100kΩ resistor. It provides a single output regulation with adaptive on-time slope compensation. This enables the device to maintain its output voltage under a changing load.At the start, the control loop will try to regulate the voltage to the specified output voltage level. If the output voltage is too low, the controller will adjust the on-time to increase the output voltage. Conversely, if the output voltage is too high, the controller will reduce the on-time to reduce the output voltage. The upper and lower voltage limits of the error amplifier comparator are set internally and can be adjusted by changing the connected resistors.The LTC1772IS6#TRPBF also features an over-voltage protection (OVP) circuit. This circuit prevents the output voltage from rising above a preset threshold if an external fault events occur, such as a short-circuited load or an output transient. The OVP circuit can be disabled by connecting an external resistor to the OVP pin.When a fault is detected, the device will latch the OVP output. It is then necessary to apply a startup sequence in order for the device to restart. If the fault is persistent, the device will not resume operation and the output will remain latched to the OVP level.The LTC1772IS6#TRPBF provides an easy-to-use design solution for applications requiring full-wave regulation of DC voltage and current output.
