The LTC2201IUK is an 16-bit, monolithic Pipeline Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) with a truly differential input and result. Featuring 1.4Gsps sampling rate, +5/3/-3dB bandwidth and 65dB SFDR (SSB), the LTC2201IUK is an ideal choice for high speed applications.

The LTC2201IUK includes the industry leading low noise and no latency differential pipelining architecture. It samples up to 3.6GHz complex signals directly with a clean baseband, requiring no IF filtering. With its externally adjustable sampling rate, gain and dynamic range, the LTC2201IUK can be optimized for virtually all applications. The low latency of the device allows for high speed control loop applications.

The working principle of the LTC2201IUK is based upon a differential charge-coupled pipeline architecture which eliminates the need for signal sampling synchronizations, gain settings and converter reset cycles. The differential analog input signal is directly sampled on its positive and negative going edges by a pair of matched track-and-hold circuits. After several clock cycles, the sample and hold amplifiers capture the signal level and compares it to the analog reference level set by the external voltage reference. The differences between the two levels are converted into digital data are latched ons two outputs in sequence.

The data is then sent to the analog-digital converter through successive stages of charge coupled capacitors. Each stage converts its input charge into a new output charge, transferring the input signal information to the output targets. The data is then A/D converted, completely isolated from the analog domain, and finally the output is available.
