After the sampling stage, the A/D conversion commences. An 8-bit SAR circuit is used to convert the analog input voltage into an 8-bit digital output. The SAR algorithm uses the stored reference voltage to compare the analog input voltage with a series of bits. Starting with the most significant bit (MSB) of the digital output, the SAR firstly compares the stored reference voltage with the analog input voltage. If the analog input voltage is greater than the reference voltage, the MSB of the output is set to 1. This process is repeated for the remaining bits until the least significant bit (LSB) is set.
