LTC2910HGN#TRPBF, a part of PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) group of devices, is one of the supervisors which cater specifically to the field of application specifically being used in Battery charging, monitoring and other diverse industries. The basic premise of the working principle of a supervisor is that it supervises whatever devices draw power from the main power supply, monitors over current and other events, and generates an active low RESET output pin when an overcurrent is detected.

The LTC2910HGN#TRPBF adopts an advanced circuit architecture which combines a bandgap reference with a high accuracy comparator and a sense amplifier to form an high accuracy voltage supervisor. This supervisor is equipped with an adjustable voltage detect threshold (VTH) of 1.25V to 5V, with accuracy of ±3%. This allows for its wider application across Battery Charging applications, automotive systems and other industrial field.

This supervisor is designed on an ultra-thin QFN (Quad Flat Non Leaded) package, which requires very less surface mounting space. Further, it operates at low voltage range of 2.25 to 5.5V, and the very low power consumption makes it even more suitable for applications which require minimum power.

The supervisor includes an adjustable under voltage lockout with 250mV granularity, a precision power-on reset, an active-low RESETwith 240mV reset threshold, as well a selectable power-good indicator, which can be configured as an active high supply voltage monitor, an active low supply voltage monitor and an active high under voltage monitor or an active low under voltage monitor. The power-good maximum duration can be programmed form 3.3 ms to 24.8 seconds.

The selectable output power-good indicator is used to detect when the output voltage is above the under-voltage threshold or when the under-voltage threshold is below the power-on/reset threshold. This helps the user to be aware of the operating state of the system and provides a diagnostic capability or to enable a timer before the system starts operation.

Working Principle: The basic operation of the LTC2910HGN#TRPBF supervisor is based on the principle of comparison of two voltages: VSTOP and VSTART. There is a VSTART pin on the supervisor which is connected to the VT of the power supply, and a VSTOP pin which is connected to the VGEN pin of the supervisor. The two voltages are compared, and if the voltage on the VSTART pin is higher than that on the VSTOP pin, the output RESET will go active low (L). When the VGEN voltage drops below the VT voltage, the output RESET will remain active for predetermined amount of time and then return to high.

Thus, the LTC2910HGN#TRPBF supervisor serves as a protection device, which monitors over current and other events, and generate an active low RESET output pin when an overcurrent is detected. It has wide application in Battery Charging, automotive systems and other industrial fields. Moreover, its ability to negate undesired power supply regulation faults, making it more suitable and reliable over other similar devices.
