This small and low power DC-DC switching regulator offers very low supply current and only requires few external components to maximize boost efficiency.The application field of LTC3111MPMSE#PBF covers all kind of applications needing a low quiescent current boost converter such as in wearable devices, battery operated devices, or IoT applications. This switching regulator can be used to provide a regulated voltage where the input supply is available in a wide range. It can also be used to shift higher input supply to a low output supply, keeping the efficiency high even when operating over a wide input voltage range. It is also very useful when the input supply input is noisy or when it can intermittently turn off, as the LTC3111MPMSE#PBF manage to restart gracefully. The working principle of LTC3111MPMSE#PBF switches from a linear regulation phase to a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and a constant frequency, current mode phased-shift operation. In linear regulation phase, the output voltage is regulated by the error amplifier and pass transistor inside the integrated circuit. This state is used for light load to obtain high efficiency and low quiescent current. In DCM active state, the error amplifier is disabled, and the inductor current is sampled linearly to reduce the losses during light load. The PFM mode is used for heavy loads, allowing higher inductor currents with improved efficiency by using continuous conduction. LTC3111MPMSE#PBF response to changes in the load is very fast, allowing the voltage or current to be maintained while the load is varying. When connected to a noise sensitive load, the LTC3111MPMSE#PBF can switch its low noise driver in parallel with the main part of the converter reducing the voltage spikes in the output node and avoiding any noise interfering with the power supply and the attached load.The internal current feedback loop also allows for great dynamic performance over wide load range.
