PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators: The LTC3388IMSE-1#TRPBF is a high-efficiency synchronous switching regulator that integrates two parallel switch mode power supply (SMPS) channels that can operate at up to 800mA per output. The channels can be configured to supply a total of 1A or 2A programs or to provide interleaved alternate current (AC) operation or two independent supplies. The LTC3388IMSE-1#TRPBF is designed for a wide range of applications including TV, video, telecommunication and automotive applications where high efficiency and low output voltage ripple are required.

The LTC3388IMSE-1#TRPBF switching regulator is designed to provide regulatedvoltage and current for applications where power efficiency is critical and cost is also an important criterion. The LTC3388IMSE-1#TRPBF is capable of up to 98.5% efficiency and an adjustable output voltage from 0.6 to 5.5V with a switching frequency that can be set up to 1MHz for both external and internal loops. The device requires only a single inductor to provide both the input and output power conversion.

The LTC3388IMSE-1#TRPBF contains two P-channel and two N-channel power MOSFETs with high-side and low-side current sensing circuitry, as well as two operational amplifiers which provide feedback and control signals to the MOSFETs. The high-side current sensing allows efficient operation over a broad battery voltage range and eliminates theneed for a blocking diode. The wide input voltage range makes the device suitable for single-cell Li-Ion battery applications, particularly beyond the traditional single-cell Li-Ion cutoff point of 3.4V, for optimal power density.

The device also has an integrated, user-selectable, high-side power saving (HSP) mode which reduces total power consumption by up to 87%. The HSP mode effectively turns off the low-side switch when the high side switch is off, resulting in reduced power dissipation. The HSP mode is ideal for applications such as TV, radio and other applications where power savings are important.
