LTC3611EWP#TRPBF, is a synchronous buck-mode step-down regulator controller, belonging to the class of PMIC (Power Management ICs) - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators. This DC/DC controller is designed to drive a variety of low-side switch MOSFET and can be used in a wide range of applications such as automotive and industrial, as well as portable and mobile systems.The LTC3611EWP#TRPBF operates with an input voltage range of 4V to 17V and provides a regulated output voltage that can be linearly adjusted from 0V to 1.2V using the external reference voltage. It has an input current monitoring and protection system, a dual-section integrated power switch, and a power MOSFET which is controlled by the internal clock.The controller contains multiple internal functions, such as a synchronous rectification step-down circuit, an internal MOSFET gate driver, a current sense accelerator, and a current-mode control loop.The synchronous rectification step-down circuit of LTC3611EWP#TRPBF is based on a DC/DC buck-mode architecture. When the input voltage is greater than the output voltage, the synchronous rectification MOSFETs (SRM) turn off and the low-side MOSFET is conducting. This way, the MOSFETs switch sequentially, allowing the input voltage to automatically adjust to the output voltage, allowing the LTC3611EWP#TRPBF to achieve high efficiency.The internal MOSFET gate driver of LTC3611EWP#TRPBF include oscillators, phase-shift circuits, and turn-on/turn-off drivers. The gate driver is responsible for controlling the MOSFET turn-on/turn-off process. The oscillator is used to generate a frequency for the phase-shift, which further generates fixed phase shift time between the low-side and high-side MOSFETs. The turn-on/turn-off circuits are responsible for switching the gate drive signal to the MOSFETs.The current sense accelerator provides a linear current sense for the output stage which can be used for protection, providing an accurate indication of how much current is being delivered to the output. The current mode control loop of LTC3611EWP#TRPBF allows it to maintain its desired output voltage without the need for compensation components.The LTC3611EWP#TRPBF is also designed with features such as thermal shutdown, linear current limiting, and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. The thermal shutdown will trigger the controller to shut down when the junction temperature of the device exceeds the specified limit, providing protection for the device. The linear current limiting feature sets a maximum current limit, allowing the controller to safely shut down if the current limit is exceeded.
