The LTC3615MPUF-1#TRPBF is a synchronous DC/DC synchronous step-down controller from Linear Technology. It is a member of the family of PolyPhase switching regulators, which allows for a high efficiency, step-down solution with the ability to concurrently output power from multiple outputs. The LTC3615MPUF-1#TRPBF can provide up to 8A of continuous output current over a wide range of input voltages and provides a wide range of output voltages with low output noise levels.

The input and output voltage ranges of the LTC3615MPUF-1#TRPBF are 3.2V – 17V and 0.75V – 15V, respectively. It operates with a switching frequency of up to 400kHz and offers a wide range of features to support multiple operating modes. Control features include programmable switching frequency, soft-start, programmable strobe/divider selection, adjustable loop response, and programmable peak current limit.

The external NMOS synchronous rectifiers, which are tied between the VOUT output and ground, complement the PMOS switch to provide a low dropout and low noise operation. The combination of the PMOS switch and the external NMOS synchronous rectifiers ensures an efficient power conversion operation.

The current-mode control architecture of the LTC3615MPUF-1#TRPBF enables tight regulation of the output voltage. Its current-mode architecture allows for fast line and load transient performance. The device can also be programed to operate in either a discontinuous or continuous conduction mode, offering greater design flexibility with respect to output voltage ripple, efficiency, and output ripple.
