LTC3617IUDD#PBF is a highly integrated and ultra-low quiescent current step-down switch mode power supply controller. It is part of the PMIC voltage regulators, especially in the special purpose related products. It can be widely used in applications such as USB PD, mobile applications and battery charging, and provide high efficiency, fast load transient and wide adaptive range.

The device integrates a high-performance 250 mA low quiescent current step-down DC-to-DC regulator, which uses a peak current mode architecture with a current limit of up to 450 mA. The peak current loop achieves excellent fast load transient, and it has a wide adaptive range from 0.3V to 5.5V. The device also provides adjustable soft start, low output ripple effects and reduced supply current in light load to make design easier.

The working principle of LTC3617IUDD#PBF is based on a DC-to-DC step-down switching regulator. It provides a constant output voltage to the load connected to its output terminal. When the input voltage is greater than the output voltage of the LTC3617IUDD#PBF, its PMOS switches on and begins to charge the inductor through the input voltage source. When the voltage across the inductor is greater than the output voltage of the regulator, the PMOS is switched off and the inductor discharges its stored energy to the output of the regulator, thus maintaining a constant regulated output voltage.

The internal charge pump of the LTC3617IUDD#PBF offers a wide adaptive range of 0.3V to 5.5V. The circuit also includes precision reference (±1.5%), error amplifier and resistor settings for accurate output voltage calibration. Each device integrates a current-limit comparator to protect against overload when the input current is too large.
