The LTC3636IUFD-1#PBF is the latest in a range of power management integrated circuits (PMICs), specifically designed to meet the requirements of high performance, high power applications. This device is a high efficiency, fully synchronized buck regulator and is especially suitable for powering applications in handheld wireless and wireless IoT applications that require high current output and low power consumption.The LTC3636IUFD-1#PBF is capable of delivering up to 9.4A of continuous output current and regulating input voltages from an ideal 2.7V to 24V. It is equipped with an intuitive external PWM signal input interface and programmable soft-start circuit for greater dynamic response and flexibility. Additionally, its Synchronous Rectification Observation Comparator enables enhanced light loading efficiency, making it particularly attractive for battery-powered applications.The LTC3636IUFD-1#PBF is primarily designed for voltage regulation, rectification, and energy conservation in a wide range of electronics and power system applications. These include: PDA, GPS, medical and portable electronics, telecommunication and automotive applications, general Power Supply, as well as general-purpose power regulation in many other environments.The LTC3636IUFD-1#PBF works on a switched-mode buck switching regulator principle. The principle allows the regulator to convert an input voltage of arbitrary amplitude and frequency into a desired regulated DC voltage. The regulator performs this function by switching the load current rapidly on and off while actively controlling the duty cycle of the switch, thus achieving an increase in efficiency and reduced power consumption. It also allows the output voltage to be maintained precisely at the desired level under varying input voltages, temperatures and loads.In order to achieve the high degree of efficiency and excellent load regulation, the LTC3636IUFD-1#PBF utilizes synchronous buck switching regulators. The synchronous buck switching regulator has one high-side FET (Field Effect Transistor) and one low-side FET. During the on-time of the switching regulator, the high side FET is turned on while the low side FET is turned off. This allows the current to flow into the output node and hence to the load. During the off-time of the switching regulator, both FETs are turned off and the current from the output node is safely discharged. The degree of on-time and off-time of the FETs determines the output voltage of the buck regulator.The LTC3636IUFD-1#PBF also features external gain control, frequency synchronization and loop compensation for easy and flexible application tuning.
