The LTC6655BHMS8-3#TRPBF from Linear Technology is a voltage reference designed for precision voltage and current monitoring applications. The device operates from a 6V to 36V supply and offers an output voltage accuracy of ±0.25% and 4ppm/°C maximum temperature drift. The device delivers a low temperature drift of 0.25% matched over the entire temperature range, without requiring any external trimming, and draws very low quiescent current of 10µA. Output current is adjustable up to 5mA and can be used to power sensors and A/D converters.The device offers two distinct output voltage ranges - 0.8V and 2.51V - that are temperature range compatible. Additionally, the device features soft start and shutdown features that allow very fast and smooth turn on and turn off from power supply rail.The LTC6655BHMS8-3#TRPBF is ideal for applications that require small board space, very low power consumption and at the same time, high precision. This device is available in an 8-lead MSOP package, and is suitable for use in industrial and communications systems, as well as instrumentation and medical applications.Working Principle
The LTC6655BHMS8-3#TRPBF uses a precision band-gap voltage reference circuit to generate a stable reference voltage. This voltage reference is based on the avalanche breakdown of a p–n junction, which sets a highly temperature-stable voltage. This reference voltage sets the input level of the precision regulators, which in turn is compared against a parameter that is set by an external resistive voltage divider. If the input voltage is greater than the comparison voltage, the output is forced to a high level, otherwise the output is forced to a low level. This circuit allows for precise current regulation and protection.The device includes an adjustable current mirror circuit to precisely match the voltage reference output to the current level of the circuit. A buffer makes output current regulation very precise over a wide range of output voltages, currents and temperatures. Additionally, the device features an over-temperature shutdown and thermal protection circuit that activates when the current from either channel exceeds a predetermined value.The LTC6655BHMS8-3#TRPBF includes an internal error amplifier to ensure minimum distortion and a high signal-to-noise ratio. By using low impedance, feedback is maintained to the input voltage source, which ensures low voltage ripple, a stable output signal, and a wide bandwidth.Applications
