DC DC Converters refer to devices that convert energy between two circuits with different DC voltages. The LTM4677EY#PBF is a type of DC DC Converter which allows transfer of energy from one circuit with an output voltage Vout to another circuit with an input voltage Vin. It features just two pins – EN and GND and has a maximum output voltage of 8 V.
The LTM4677EY#PBF is a single-channel, low-side synchronous, step-down power module. The LTM4677EY#PBF step-down device operates using a hysteretic or PFM (pulse frequency modulation) current-mode control scheme scheme, wherein the output voltage Vout is regulated by a varying on-time (tON) of M1 and M2 based on the input voltage Vin. During an active cycle, M1 turns ON for a period of tON and then turns OFF. This reduces the energy taken from the power source Vin. Also, when the M2 switch turns ON, it charges the output capacitor CO in order to store the energy taken from power source Vin. The difference between Vin and Vout is the sum of the losses (voltage drop) through M1 and M2, which can be estimated using power loss calculations. The output voltage is only regulated when the EN signal is LOW.
