As the current flows through the inductor, a magnetic field is created. When the power switch opens, the current is cut off and this creates a magnetic field that collapses, causing the voltage to build up on the inductor until it reaches the output voltage level. Then the diode conducts, allowing a current loop to complete the cycle.The switching regulator module also features an integrated current limit circuit that prevents it from overloading, an over-temperature protection circuit for safe operation, and an adjustable soft-start circuit that prevents inrush current when the module is first powered up.
