The LX1682IDM is an integrated dual mode (IDM) DC-DC synchronous controller from Linear Technology. It combines a current mode buck controller and a synchronous buck controller in a single package for a wide range of applications. The synchronous mode works as a fast transient load response switching controller, whereas the current mode offers stable and controlled high-current output for better efficiency and results in reduced system costs. This integrated controller can be easily adapted to different applications with its built-in monitoring functions and its wide range of operating parameters.
The LX1682IDM is a flexible, easy-to-use solution for designers who need a compact, high-performance DC-DC synchronous controller with a wide range of operating parameters. It provides a wide input voltage range (2.6V to 28V) and is capable of providing output voltages up to 28V. The LX1682IDM’s dual-mode architecture enables fast transient response and high efficiency performance while providing excellent EMI suppression capabilities.
The LX1682IDM’s buck controller uses an adaptive-on-time, active-clamp switchover control to smoothly transition between dual-mode operation for superior efficiency and performance. The Buck controller’s efficient switching device provides low switching noise, as well as low on-resistance for maximum efficiency. The controller also employs flexible frequency operation with selectable switching frequency or synchronization to an external clock, allowing it to be easily adapted to different applications.
The LX1682IDM’s synchronous mode works in conjunction with the buck controller to provide lightning-fast load transient response for instantaneous voltage regulation. This allows for better load regulation and excellent load performance during sudden load changes. The synchronous mode’s adaptive-on-time, active-clamp control provides higher efficiency performance as well as tighter voltage and current regulation when compared to conventional PWM-controlled DC-DC controllers.
The LX1682IDM features various monitoring functions that enable the system designer to optimize their designs. These features include an input voltage trigger (IVT) to provide an early warning when the input voltage is too low and an output voltage monitoring (OVM) feature to ensure the output voltage is within specified parameters. It also has an over-temperature protection (OTP) feature to provide additional protection in case of an over-temperature condition. Additionally, the LX1682IDM has selectable power-on-reset (POR) with optional open drain POR or normal POR pin output.
The LX1682IDM offers a wide range of operating parameters for designers to easily adapt the controller to different applications. The controller provides adjustable peak current limit and soft-start, as well as selectable operating modes for the buck converter. These operating modes include discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), pulse-skipping mode (PSM), and discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM). The adjustable parameters and operating modes provide excellent system performance and make the LX1682IDM ideal for high-performance DC-DC synchronous motion control and other related DC-DC switching applications.
