LX8221-GIDU

LX8221-GIDU is a Linear Voltage Regulator in a PMIC (Power Management IC) series, specifically designed for thermostat or thermoregulator applications. It is a fully integrated, highly efficient and cost-effective linear voltage regulator, offering both the superiorperformance and low power consumption needed for the thermoelectric cooling applications.The LX8221-GIDU works by sensing the temperature and regulating the supply voltage to take corrective action whenever the temperature changes. This is done by using an integrated temperature sense amplifier, which compares the voltage of the reference temperature to the output of the thermistor bridge. Once the voltage difference between the two reaches a certain level, the LX8221-GIDU adjusts the output voltage accordingly.The LX8221 has two operating modes: the normal mode and the hibernate mode. In the normal mode, the LX8221 uses the built-in temperature sensing amplifier and lower gain reference to regulate the output voltage. The hibernate mode is used when the temperature falls below a certain level and the regulator switches to a low power dissipation mode for reduction of power dissipation.The LX8221-GIDU operates from a wide operating range of 3V-20V, supports both positive and negative outputs and offers various output current options (up to 6A) for applications such as Multiple Power Rails, General Purpose Voltage Regulation, Current Limiting and Over-Voltage Protection.The LX8221-GIDU has robust thermal and over-temperature protection with over-temperature protection, and it is also designed with a low dropout voltage, fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation. This makes it ideal for thermoelectric cooling applications and other inrush current and over-temperature protection.The LX8221-GIDU is designed with a user-programmable temperature-sensing threshold, which allows the user to customize the operating temperature range of the thermostat. This threshold can be adjusted by using a thermistor in a bridge circuit, allowing the device to detect temperatures over a wide range.The integrated pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller can be used for fan or PCM control. The PWM open-loop control is used for power or current regulation in cooling fans and the PWM closed-loop control is used for PCM control.
