The LYT4228E is a highly efficient offline AC-DC converter that delivers up to 28W of regulated output from a universal input voltage range of 90-305VAC. It offers both a high efficiency operation up to 94% and a low standby power consumption, meeting the latest no-load requirements of IEC 62471.

The operation of the LYT4228E is based on the flyback topology. Upon mains application, a fixed oscillator voltage is applied to the primary gate of the power MOSFET which triggers and drives the primary current until the expected peak current is achieved. The current flow is then transferred to the auxiliary winding of the transformer, setting transport time of the switch cycle. Here, a 0.5uF input bypass capacitor helps in achieving an appropriate ripple setting. On the secondary side, a fixed low frequency differential voltage is rectified and used for the output regulation.

The application circuit requires two feedback pins to set the output voltage. By setting the internal reference voltage, it can be adjusted to a maximum of 38V and minimum of 1V. The reference voltage is given by the opto-coupler voltage divider. The output voltage can also be synchronized to an external source with the help of a trim resistor.

The LYT4228E provides protection features for overload, overvoltage, output short circuit and over temperature. To achieve reliable protection, the LYT4228E also comes with an active clamp winding regulation feature that adjusts the maximum switch voltage and makes sure that the part is protected against an over voltage event.
