The MA2SD1900L diode is a single-phase full-bridge, brand-new silicon rectifier module from Vishay Siliconix, designed to meet the needs of dense and power hungry applications. It combines two dual, ultrafast, soft-recovery, low-forward-voltage, silicon-controlled thyristors (SCRs) and two fast recovery diodes into a single package which is presented in an industry-standard package.

Application Field and Working Principle

The MA2SD1900L rectifier module is mainly used in demanding applications such as automotive, power conversion, motor control, industrial, hydrogen fuelling and railway. This diode offers superior performance, reliability, and cost savings in a large variety of power switch designs.

The working principle of this diode is based on the fact that due to different doping profiles in its p-n junction, when a voltage is applied, the junction will support a specific current before it will switch off again. This is known as forward-bias. So, if the reverse-bias is applied, it will cut off again. In this way, the diode protects the relative circuit components from overloads or excessive energy.

The MA2SD1900L diode is capable of a very low forward-voltage drop, up to 2.1V at current ratings of up to 900A. This feature reduces power loss, improves efficiency and contributes to a reliable operation. Furthermore, it offers a very fast and soft-recovery time from reverse current that helps reduce the number of components needed in the power control circuit.
